Roma is preparing to restructure its squad for next season.

Nearly half of the current squad is set to leave Trigoria on June 30th: between expiring contracts and loans that won’t be redeemed, eight players are set to leave the club.

Amid this changing landscape, Mario Hermoso appears to have won over Gian Piero Gasperini and Roma.

According to Il Tempo, thanks to his excellent performances in recent months, his permanence in the capital now appears certain.

Having arrived with some difficulty and initially remained on the fringes of rotation, Hermoso has risen through the ranks thanks to the coach’s faith. In the last victory against Lecce, he was the man of the match: his beautiful cross for Robinio Vaz’s decisive goal, and his goalline clearance that denied Pierotti an equalizer, sealing the three points. The club has therefore decided to move to extend the player’s contract.

Although the current agreement expires in June, Roma intends to activate the automatic renewal clause before the end of the season.

The management’s goal is to extend the contract until 2027 or 2028, a move that would also allow the defender’s salary to be spread across multiple years, mitigating the impact on the budget.
