Roma are looking to get back to winning ways after a 2-1 defeat against Juventus last time out. A victory this evening will see them leapfrog the Bianconeri back into the top four.

Genoa have only won once in December, and are also in need of a win after back-to-back defeats against Inter and Atalanta in the run-up to Christmas. They will not drop into the relegation zone, even if they lose at the Olimpico on Monday night, though.

Gasperini: 'Ferguson is on the right track'

“He’s on the right track,” Gasperini told DAZN when asked about the Republic of Ireland international.

“Being a young guy, he has a lot of room to be a decisive player, especially for becoming a big centre-forward.

“Let’s talk about Roma. Roma have to be a good team. They’ve had great centre-forwards in the past, everyone remembers them well here. He has the advantage of still being really young, and so he needs to have the desire, the determination and needs to recognise where his is and who came before him. He has to be very strong, at least on an emotional level, to achieve that.”

Gasperini on Roma's victory

“We started well and benefitted from the goal, but the team played at good pace, with good shape. We were always dangerous on the attack.

“Perhaps we might have tried to manage the game a bit better in the second half, in front of a full stadium. We could have played a bit better, but the game was already almost over. Credit to these guys, because Genoa are a tough team that have put in some fantastic performances against Inter and Atalanta, even with 10 men. Having played like this against them is a positive sign.”

De Rossi on his Roma farewell

“I’m angry on the inside, it’s frustrating because I didn’t like the performance we put in. That feeling still remains despite the final goodbye, the support from my fans, from my former fans, from my former players.

“They would have done the same with a draw, a victory or a defeat, but it would have been a bit nicer to go and say goodbye to them after a different performance.

“I’m sorry I had a stern face on during that farewell, but they know me. They know that I don’t have any other way of experiencing football.”
