Roma’s transfer market is the subject of differing opinions: some consider it more than adequate, while others struggle to give it a passing grade due to a few missed signings.
Regardless of opinion, the new Giallorossi era under Gian Piero Gasperini is “greener” than usual.
Among the big clubs in Italy, none have an average age of 25 years and 7 months; last year, the same figure was 28 years and 1 month.
The path is clear: strong young players must be developed and capitalized on.
In Italy, Italian champions Napoli have an average age of 27 years and 9 months, according to Gazzetta dello Sport; Inter, at 28 and 4 months, is the oldest.
Milan, Juventus, Atalanta, and Lazio surpass Roma in this special ranking.
The clubs with the youngest average ages in Serie A are Parma (24 and 2), Lecce (24 and 4), and Cagliari (24 and 6).
If they wanted, the Giallorossi could even surpass these clubs by fielding a squad of 23 years and 2 months.
Switching from Hummels, Paredes, and Shomurodov to Ghilardi, Ziolkowski, Ferguson, Wesley, and El Aynaoui has clearly helped bring about a change of direction.
Some of them, like Wesley, are also making their mark with the national teams.
So perhaps Gasperini can replicate what he saw in Bergamo here, without forgetting that the Giallorossi youth system boasts talents like Arena, Romano, and Paratici.
