Federico Chiesa’s situation at Liverpool has been the subject of debate throughout the summer. Signed from Juventus in 2024 for a fee of around £10 million, the Italian international was initially regarded as a smart addition to the squad. Expectations were high, but his debut season fell well short of the mark.
Persistent injuries restricted him to fewer than 500 minutes across all competitions, and he failed to find the net in the Premier League. Those struggles prompted speculation about a potential move away, with several Serie A sides closely monitoring developments.
However, the latest insight from Fabrizio Romano suggests that the narrative has shifted. Rather than seeking an exit, Chiesa is now intent on staying and re-establishing himself at Anfield.
Romano explained that Chiesa had, at one stage, been open to a return to Italy to safeguard his international ambitions. Securing a regular place in the national squad ahead of upcoming World Cup qualifiers had been a priority, and limited minutes in England placed that objective at risk.

Yet circumstances inside Liverpool’s squad altered significantly. With departures reducing competition in wide areas, the pathway for Chiesa became clearer. Despite missing the pre-season tour, he returned for the opening Premier League fixture and produced a decisive moment – scoring the late winner against Bournemouth.
According to Romano, this goal symbolised a renewed determination. Chiesa’s agent has since informed Liverpool that the player is committed to staying, no longer entertaining discussions with Serie A clubs.
From Liverpool’s perspective, there was never a strong push to move the forward on. Club officials believed that patience could yield rewards, particularly if Chiesa rediscovered the sharpness that once made him one of Europe’s most dynamic attackers.
Manager Arne Slot has been supportive, viewing the 27-year-old as capable of contributing if given continuity. For supporters, the Bournemouth strike served as a reminder of his quality and potential to change games in key moments.
That goal was also his first in the Premier League – a milestone that, while overdue, has given both player and club optimism heading into a challenging period of fixtures.
Liverpool’s immediate focus is on upcoming tests against Newcastle United and Arsenal before the close of the transfer window. These matches will be an early barometer of how Chiesa can fit into Slot’s evolving system and whether his determination translates into consistent impact on the pitch.
With Romano now reporting his intention to remain, Liverpool’s hierarchy will be encouraged by a sense of clarity. The club invested modestly in financial terms, but the potential upside if Chiesa rediscovers his best form could prove significant.
