West Ham have reportedly informed Kobbie Mainoo that he is guaranteed to play a starting role if he agrees a mid-season move to the London Stadium.

The Manchester United star is one player facing a hugely uncertain future in the build-up to the January window

As things stand, both Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee are poised to hold talks with club chiefs in the coming weeks to discuss their situations. However, Ruben Amorim has already made it abundantly clear that he has no plans to green-light the duo’s exit in the winter.

Amorim is preparing to lose three of his most trusted lieutenants when January rolls around, with Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui all expected to receive call-ups to represent their respective nations at AFCON, meaning depth will be essential to ensure all bases are covered in a hectic period of the campaign.

Mainoo has yet to make a Premier League start this term and has featured seven times off the bench, spending three full games watching on from the sidelines as an unused option.

When he wasn’t utilised for the opening two matches against Arsenal and Fulham, the 20-year-old asked to leave in the final week before deadline day. His requests ultimately fell on deaf ears, as INEOS blocked any potential loan.

Why Mainoo is likely to reiterate his desire to depart on loan

Fabrizio Romano suggested back in September that if Mainoo’s lack of game time continued, he’d likely push to leave again when the window reopens.

The transfer reporter has verified West Ham’s interest this week, revealing on the Here We Go podcast: “West Ham are offering Kobbie Mainoo a guaranteed starting spot.

“Mainoo would still be open for a loan move in the January transfer window, but it’s on United now. He would like to play on loan for six months, then go back to United.”
