The Stadium of Light welcomed a cast of football greats on Bank Holiday Monday for an exhibition match, as Ronaldinho’s side met a UK Icons team that included Sunderland legends Kevin Phillips and Jermaine Defoe.

According to Sunderland Echo, it came just over 24 hours after Regis Le Bris’ side secured seventh place in the Premier League and qualification for next season’s Europa League.

With AC Milan, Juventus and Olympique Marseille also in UEFA’s secondary competition, more big names could be on Wearside next season.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star took centre stage, underscoring the appeal of the event.
