Ronaldinho has revisited the story behind his famous free-kick under the wall in Flamengo’s 5-4 comeback at Santos in 2011.

Santos raced 3-0 ahead through two goals from Borges and one from Neymar, whose strike later won FIFA’s Puskas Award. According to Coluna Do Fla, Ronaldinho has since explained the routine behind the set-piece in a Netflix documentary.

Before half-time Flamengo levelled via Ronaldinho, Thiago Neves and Deivid. Early in the second half Neymar put Santos 4-3 up.

Fouled near the area, Ronaldinho equalised with a drilled effort under the jumping wall, then struck late to complete the turnaround for coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.

In the documentary he said he had practised the low strike in training with a metal wall that left a gap, reasoning that the wet Vila Belmiro surface would tempt defenders to jump.

He also teased former team-mate Rodrigo Alvim, who had called the idea crazy, saying he had the last laugh and jokingly calling Alvim a fool.

Signed in 2011, Ronaldinho won the Campeonato Carioca that year. He left the following season amid delayed salary payments, after 72 games, 28 goals and 17 assists in a little under two years.
