Ronaldinho ‘to join’ Ravenna in Italy’s Serie C at 46 | OneFootball

Ronaldinho, the 2005 Ballon d'Or winner, 46, could return to professional football in Italy with Serie C side Ravenna, 11 years after his last match in September 2015 for Fluminense, Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

He would not be joining Serie A or B, but Serie C. Ravenna, led by Ignazio Cipriani, narrowly missed promotion last season. The announcement could come on Tuesday 23 June at an event in Miami, Gazzetta dello Sport added.

Ronaldinho said football has always brought him joy and he wants to take the same spirit to Ravenna, Gazzetta dello Sport said.

Ravenna vice-president Ariedo Braida told LaPresse it is a major marketing coup for the club and that Ronaldinho will receive a playing licence. He said whether he plays at 46 depends, but the licence will be in place.

Speaking to Ansa, Braida said whether he features is to be seen and not excluded, and described him as a champion beyond categories and age.

Gazzetta dello Sport added the Brazilian is expected to be present when the squad reconvenes, take part in pre-season and be available to the coaching staff in early August.
