Ronaldo Breaks "All-Time" World Cup Qualifying Record with Double Against Hungary
Cristiano Ronaldo's written another unforgettable chapter in football history.
The 39 year old Portugal captain became the all time top scorer in FIFA World Cup qualifying on Tuesday 14 October after scoring twice against Hungary in 2-2 draw at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.
Ronaldo entered the match tied with Carlos Ruiz on 39 goal in World Cup qualifiers. He broke the record by scoring the equaliser in 1st half, then extended his new benchmark with 2nd goal in the second half taking his tally to 41 goal in World Cup qualifying matches.
This remarkable feat adds to Ronaldo’s already unmatched collection of records including:
Portugal looked set to seal qualification with 2-1 lead, thanks to Ronaldo’s brace.
However a late equaliser from Dominik Szoboszlai denied them early ticket to the 2026 World Cup forcing them to wait until their remaining fixtures against Ireland & Armenia in November.
Despite the draw, Portugal remain firmly on track to qualify sitting top of their group with unbeaten record.
