Vitor Roque officially became a Palmeiras player last Friday after the Brazilian club completed a deal worth €25.5 million in fixed fees, with an additional €5 million in variables, to acquire 80% of the striker’s rights from Barcelona.

This transfer has allowed the Catalan club to recoup the investment they initially made when signing the talented forward from Athletico Paranaense.

The move was a significant development in Roque’s career, and his agent, Andre Cury, recently shed light on the reasons behind his departure in an interview with ‘Tu Diràs de RAC1’.

Barcelona will recover the amount

Cury explained that Barcelona had evaluated their squad options and determined that Pau Victor was a more suitable choice than Roque for the team’s plans.

He emphasised that, in the end, the financial aspect of the transfer was crucial, as it allowed Barcelona to regain almost the entire amount they had invested in Roque’s signing.

According to Cury, the transfer was completed with the best interests of both the player and the club in mind.

Since Roque was not getting the playing time he needed at Barcelona, it was essential to find a club that could utilise his abilities properly.

“Now we are doing the operation to help Deco and the club because they are not using the player. They take the money back, which today Barça needs a lot, and the player goes on his way.

“Vitor is sold at almost the same price he arrived. Barça gets back almost everything it invested,” he began saying.

What led to Betis’ exit?

When questioned about Roque’s departure from Betis, Cury pointed out that the club’s signing of Cucho Hernandez signalled their intent to move forward without Roque.

“What happened is that Betis, at the end of the window, signed Cucho.”

Cury expressed concerns about players being stuck in a cycle of loan moves, stating that a footballer needs stability and a club that is invested in their future.

“When Betis made this move to buy a ‘9’ it is because they are discarding Vitor.

“We could not stay there on loan, it is very dangerous for a player to always be on loan because a player has to have an owner who takes care of him,” he said.

Deco’s investment and Victor Font’s case

Cury also addressed the topic of Deco’s involvement in Roque’s initial signing for Barcelona, as well as the legal complaint filed by Deco against Victor Font.

The controversy arose after Font raised concerns regarding the transparency of the deal and hinted at potential commission-related issues.

Cury dismissed these claims, reminding everyone that Deco had previously played a role in securing Raphinha’s transfer to Barcelona before officially taking over as the club’s sporting director.

“Time will prove Deco right with Vitor Roque because he is a great player.”

Reflecting on previous successful transfers, Cury cited the cases of Neymar and Yerry Mina, both of whom were profitable signings for Barcelona.

He insisted that the process of acquiring Roque was handled in a normal and professional manner, reiterating that the club had successfully managed to recover almost all the money they had initially invested.

“The first meeting I had was with Jordi Cruyff and Mateu Alemany and Deco, who were together, at the Princesa Sofia. The operation was carried out as normal as usual,” he concluded.
