Chelsea have had their international break, they’ve had their easy warm up against Port Vale and they’ve had their free week to follow.

They couldn’t ask for much more in terms of washing away the bad form they had had before the break and preparing for Man City. But that’s no guarantee of anything. With Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah looking likely to miss the game injured, as well as Enzo Fernandez through suspension, Liam Rosenior has some big decisions to make.

Rosenior faces questions over team style against Man City

He will be tempted to just try and keep things tight early on, but he really doesn’t have the defence to do that. Whichever combination of central defenders he picks, there will be little faith they can get the job done, especially with Erling Haaland looking dangerous again.

Against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season, Rosenior went for a very conservative style to start, which proved quite controversial. The question is – will he repeat that, knowing that Man City desperately need to win to keep their title hopes alive?
