There were a few awkward topics for Liam Rosenior to address today, from the mockery of his note usage against PSG to the result of that game.

Another sore point were the quotes from Enzo Fernandez after the game. The midfielder cast doubt on his Chelsea future by saying he “will see” if he’s at the club next season, putting Rosenior in an awkward position.

Rosenior falls back on oldest trick in the book to excuse his captain

“I had a great conversation with Enzo at length this morning before training, not just about his comments, just how he was feeling, how as a team we can improve,” Rosenior said.

“He’s one of the captains of the club. What I would say is that he made it really, really clear to me how happy he is here at this club, how much he wants to win, how passionate he is for us to be successful.

“He also said that in translation and in emotion, things get misconstrued in what he said. So for me, he’s fully committed to this group, he’s fully committed to winning here at this football club.”

So it’s a classic “lost in translation” excuse then… pull the other one.

In other news…

Filip Jorgensen has had surgery on a groin problem that most people thought was made up.

Another important update was on Trevoh Chalobah, whose ankle injury is bad but not as serious as it looked.
