Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa over the weekend, leaving them in seventh place in the Premier League table.

Former United midfielder Roy Keane was critical of a few players over two goals they conceded, tearing into them for failing to prevent Morgan Rogers’ brace.

Diogo Dalot did not cover himself in glory for the first goal. He should have helped Leny Yoro to cover Rogers.

However, Yoro and Dalot allowed the Englishman to cut in and score past goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

The Man Utd wing-back was also guilty of letting Youri Tielemans’ cross come in, allowing Rogers to pounce and net his second.

Keane believes Dalot is not doing enough for Man United. He said (via Sky Sports): “They’ve got to be more intense when they’re defending, there’s got to be a bit more pride.

“I look at Dalot there, he’s getting interviewed after the game. Dalot for the second goal, the intensity or desire to stop the cross.

“These are big moments in a football match. It ends up being a poor cross, but Aston Villa, playing with confidence and belief, make the most of it.

“You can have all the talent in the world, but you’ve got to roll your sleeves up and when the game gets a bit tight, or there’s moments, you just go, ‘I’m going to do my bit for the team.”

“There are too many players, like Dalot, who just don’t do enough. I won’t use the word ‘cheating,’ but they are just not doing enough.”

United must replace Dalot

Dalot’s performance has been notably underwhelming over the past few seasons, leading to growing criticism from pundits and fans alike.

His lack of intensity, attacking output and defensive awareness has cost the team crucial moments. Given his ongoing struggles, it’s time for United to consider a fresh start at the right-wing-back position.

Dalot’s inconsistency means he should be one of the first players sold this summer.

The club needs a new, dynamic right-wing-back who can take on the mantle and help stabilise the defence.

A new addition could bring the quality that is currently lacking, allowing Man United to rebuild and push for better results.
