Ruben Amorim has acknowledged he made several mistakes during his time at Manchester United.
Amorim was sacked as United manager in January after a challenging 14-month period at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese has returned to management with AC Milan. He has reflected on his time in the Premier League, admitting he made mistakes during his difficult spell at United.
“It’s hard to explain the mistakes because for that I would have to explain all the context of the last adventure,” Amorim said.
“It’s hard to say to you every mistake. The only thing to say is I learned a lot, and I made some mistakes.”
Amorim arrived at United with a reputation as one of Europe’s elite coaches following his stunning success at Sporting CP.
His tactics didn’t work in the Premier League, despite significant backing in the transfer market.
The Red Devils finished 15th in the table and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur in his first season.
The club’s hierarchy stuck with the Portuguese and made funds available for several key additions in attack.
However, there was no visible improvement. Despite heavy criticism from fans and former players, he persisted with a back-three system.
The pointed comments he made against the hierarchy in January proved to be the last straw.
Michael Carrick quickly unlocked the squad’s potential after replacing Amorim, leading United back into the Champions League.
Carrick was subsequently handed the permanent job at Old Trafford.
