A number of Manchester United players are reported to have discussed changing away from Ruben Amorim's new tactical setup after a difficult start to life under the head coach.

Amorim wasted little time attempting to copy over his 3-4-2-1 setup which enjoyed plenty of success in Portugal, but concerns over whether United's current squad is capable of performing in such a formation have been amplified by a miserable run of results.

With eight losses from his first 20 games across all competitions and a goal difference of just +1, supporters have questioned whether a return to a four-back formation would help the team.

A report from the Daily Mail says those questions have been shared among some players behind the scenes, many of whom have privately asked whether sticking to Amorim's current setup is the best move.

Indeed, there is said to be "growing concern" among players that their struggles in Amorim's preferred formation are unlikely to end unless the boss proves to be flexible in his tactical vision.

It is stressed that Amorim has not, at this point, lost the United dressing room, but players are aware that the pressure will only continue to grow if results continue to go against them in the coming weeks and months.

Amorim is keen to see United dip into the transfer market to find players capable of performing in his preferred system. Attacking wing-back Patrick Dorgu joined in January, while United have also been linked with Sporting CP youngster Geovany Quenda.

United are currently 13th in the Premier League table, 14 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, and face another huge game on Sunday against fellow surprise strugglers Tottenham Hotspur.
