Ruben Amorim has detailed a conversation he had with former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho, highly regarded as one of the greatest managers in the game, spent two years at Old Trafford following the legendary reign of Sir Alex Ferguson. His time in Manchester, albeit brief, saw the Red Devils achieve Europa League success and record a second-place finish in the Premier League behind rivals Manchester City in 2017/18.
The Portuguese manager remains a fan favourite at United, and has since taken the time to speak with new head coach Amorim.
"He sent me a message," Amorim told reporters at Carrington's training ground on Friday. "He said it's a big club, lovely club with lovely people, and he's correct, it still is. First thing, for me and all the Portuguese coaches, he showed that we can be best in the world. For a small country, it can put a stamp on everybody."

Amorim was keen to downplay the comparison that have been made with his compatriot. "I am different from Mourinho, I am a different person," the 39-year-old said. "At that time, it felt like he could win everywhere. It is not the same thing. He was a European champion. I am not a European champion.
"I am a different guy in a different moment, football is in a different moment. Football nowadays is different. We are building a new club. I am a different guy. I hope to teach something different here to my players. It's the best club in England. We want to win, that's all."
Amorim's first meeting with the media came ahead of his debut game as United's head coach - against Ipswich Town on Sunday. The Red Devils will hope to see success during their weekend clash, currently sitting just four places ahead of the newly-promoted side.
