Kieffer Moore has been firing for Wrexham so far this season and could've kept Ruben Selles with the Blades had he not been sold.

Kieffer Moore has been firing in front of goal with Wrexham this season, to Sheffield United's and Ruben Selles' dismay.

For the Welsh international striker Moore, it's been the ideal start to his time in his native homeland with Wrexham, and he has quickly become one of the most feared centre-forwards in the Championship this season.

The 33-year-old arrived at the Racecourse Ground from Sheffield United in the summer, and has been driving his new club up the table since gaining promotion to the second tier last season.

Moore has scored over a third of the Red Dragons' league goals this season, with over a dozen games played, highlighting his importance to the club's ongoing success.

With Moore departing Bramall Lane for around £2 million to second-tier newcomers Wrexham, he's already made a mark for them as he has already scored nine times in 15 appearances in all competitions this season.

As for his former club Sheffield United, they may be looking on with transfer regret, and especially the Blades' former boss Ruben Selles, who was the manager to ship out the forward in the summer.

With United currently in a time of turmoil, the South Yorkshire side could have definitely benefited from his services this campaign.

After having a busy transfer window, plenty of Wrexham’s newcomers have made their mark this season, however, none more than the Welsh striker who has been the difference-maker in the final third.

The veteran striker was brought in by Phil Parkinson to be the established Championship centre-forward that the club needed in order to stamp their authority in the division after three promotions in a row.

The consistency he has shown in front of goal has not disappointed, as he has tallied up an expected goals of 4.40 and is producing well above that figure.

Flashback to his time with the Blades last season and Moore has already outperformed his previous output, having merely scored six goals in 30 league appearances.

Therefore, it could be said that Selles isn't to blame for letting the striker go after a below-par season in terms of numbers. However, Wrexham certainly capitalised on Sheffield United's mishap.

In recent years, goals have been lacking for the striker as loan spells have seemed to disrupt his rhythm in front of goal. With it not working out with Bournemouth, brief spells at Ipswich and Sheffield United have not given Moore the opportunity to get settled as the first-choice number nine on a consistent basis.

In the 2025/26 season, however, he seems to be aging like a fine wine, and could prove to be the difference for the Red Dragons in achieving the ambitious goal of the play-offs come the end of the season.

One thing for sure is that if he continues to fire on all cylinders, then the Blades will have major regrets over selling him to a Championship rival in the summer.

Ruben Selles may have had his Sheffield United job intact if Kieffer Moore were still at Bramall Lane

Obviously, it's if, buts and maybes. However, you'd seem to think that had Moore been given a second season to prove himself in the red and white quarters of the Steel City, then he would've surely won enough points to have kept Selles in the job.

With the manager's short time at Bramall Lane coming to a sad and sorry end, no one could've expected United's season to kick off the way it did after being tipped as heavy promotion candidates prior to a ball being kicked.

And that theme has continued under Wilder, who, should he have had Moore at his disposal right now, his current form with Wrexham could have been replicated in a Blades shirt, as Wilder is openly an admirer of the Welshman after signing him in July 2024.

The Spanish manager has made a quick return to management since facing the sack by Sheffield United, and is now in charge of La Liga 2 side Real Zaragoza.

As for his time with the Blades, six games and six losses was enough for the club owners to make their minds up about his future, otherwise, a trip to League One seemed likely.

So, given how he's started life with Wrexham, had Moore been the man leading the line for the Blades this season, proceedings could have panned out signficantly different for Selles and Sheffield United.

But with Tyrese Campbell proving his worth and quality last season with 11 league goals, it's no surprise that Selles chose him as his frontman either.
