Rui Costa aims to tie down Gonçalo Oliveira amid Barcelona interest | OneFootball

Rui Costa is moving to renew Gonçalo Oliveira’s Benfica contract to deter Barcelona, according to Glorioso 1904.

The Seixal-trained centre-back is considered one of the club’s brightest prospects and Benfica want to secure his future soon.

The plan is to extend his deal to 2030 or 2031, alongside a sizeable salary uplift. Benfica also aim to insert a release clause of at least €80 million to ward off suitors.

Barcelona have been monitoring the Portuguese defender’s progress, putting those at the Estádio da Luz on alert. Despite outside interest, the belief within Benfica is that a new agreement can be reached soon.

This season Oliveira, valued at €2 million, has played 16 matches for the club, 11 in Segunda Liga and five in the UEFA Youth League. Across 1,395 minutes he has scored four goals and supplied two assists. His current deal runs until 2027.
