According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica have filed an injunction with the Tribunal Arbitral do Desporto, TAD, aiming to have José Mourinho on the touchline against Vitória Guimarães after his sending off against Porto led to disciplinary action.
The Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation, CD, imposed a one-match suspension plus 11 days and a total fine of 5,355 euros, for allegedly kicking a ball towards Porto’s bench after Leandro Barreiro’s goal sealed a 2-2 draw.
Mourinho served the one-match ban at Arouca last Saturday and began the 11-day sanction the following day. As it stands, he is expected to miss the home match unless the TAD rules otherwise.
Days after the CD ruling, a video circulated on social media, and the footage indicates Mourinho kicked towards the stands rather than at Porto’s bench. The first Porto staff member to approach the fourth official was Lucho González, who was sent off and later exchanged words with Mourinho in the tunnel.
Benfica return to action on Saturday, 21 March, hosting Vitória Guimarães in the 27th round of Liga Portugal Betclic. In the build-up, Mourinho already knows he will be without two members of his squad.
