Rui Costa suspended 45 days and fined €7,650 over Famalicão refereeing remarks | OneFootball

According to Glorioso 1904, Rui Costa has been suspended for 45 days by the FPF disciplinary board and fined €7,650.

The decision follows a complaint from APAF regarding his post-match remarks after Benfica’s 2-2 draw at Famalicão, the 32nd round of Liga Portugal Betclic.

He criticised referee Gustavo Correia and questioned his appointment to a match viewed as decisive for the league standings.

The disciplinary board ruled that he committed an offence harming honour and reputation and a slanderous denunciation. It reduced the initial punishment, citing a mitigating factor and good behaviour, cutting the suspension from 60 to 45 days.

In the same ruling, Benfica was cleared of APAF’s complaint over a post published after the Famalicão match that ironically named the refereeing team led by Correia as man of the match.
