Rui Pedro Silva is poised to leave Wolves to rejoin Nuno Espirito Santo at West Ham, according to ExpressAndStar.com.

The 49-year-old will not be part of Cesar Peixoto’s backroom team after choosing to depart Molineux for a second time to join Wolves’ Championship rivals.

He spent four years as Nuno’s assistant from 2017 to 2021, and returned last November after Rob Edwards was appointed head coach, with an expectation he would review his future this summer. Edwards was sacked last month following relegation, so the move comes as little surprise.

Silva is set to reunite with Nuno, his long-time colleague at Rio Ave, Valencia and Porto before their first Wolves spell nine years ago. He also worked with Nuno at Nottingham Forest until both were axed last September, though he did not join him in moving to the Hammers.

The pair will now target an immediate Premier League return with West Ham, with Wolves likely among their chief rivals.

Peixoto has been tasked with leading the Black Country club’s promotion push, and confirmation of his staff is expected shortly. The 46-year-old plans to bring several colleagues from his most recent role at Gil Vicente.

Peixoto, who has never managed outside Portugal, wants to get up and running quickly and views pre-season as crucial. Players not involved at the World Cup will report back to Compton Park next week, before a warm weather training camp in Portugal.

Wolves open pre-season at Maidenhead United on Wednesday, July 22.
