Russell Martin is set to begin his Leicester City rebuild by reuniting with Danny Ings on a one-year deal, according to The Telegraph. The striker is expected to join League One Leicester after leaving Sheffield United.

Martin divided opinion at Southampton, guiding promotion from the Championship in 2023/24 before a grim Premier League start led to his dismissal by Christmas. He now takes charge of a club seeking swift momentum.

Leicester were relegated from the second tier last season after three different managers failed to halt the slide. The aim is immediate promotion back to the Championship under Martin.

Ings hit 41 Premier League goals for Southampton and 46 in total between 2018 and 2021, including a brace at Fratton Park in a 4-0 South Coast Derby win over Portsmouth. He scored 22 league goals in 2019/20 as the Saints impressed under Ralph Hasenhüttl.

He left for Aston Villa in a £25 million move before 2021/22, scoring 15 in 18 months, then joined West Ham in January 2023 where he added 5 in 69 games. The 33-year-old netted twice in 23 second-tier matches for Sheffield United and has not played in the third tier since 2011.
