Leigh Kent, chair of Shareholders for Albion, has asked the EFL for clarity over West Brom’s reported PSR charge. According to ExpressAndStar.com, Albion face a hearing over an alleged financial breach.

The case is believed to concern interest on a loan from United States lender MSD Holdings taken in 2022 and 2023 under former owner Guochuan Lai. The club insist they are not in breach.

S4A represents the club’s minority investors, around eight per cent of shares, with the majority now owned by Shilen Patel’s Bilkul Football WBA. The group is seeking answers.

Kent said he had emailed the EFL, copying in the Independent Football Regulator, and raised sporting integrity and timing. He added the club could not discuss the substance with him at this stage.

He said that if the issue is as he believes, and if all relevant matters were considered, his informed view is that Albion would not be in breach. He outlined reasons and the timeline to the MSD loan, including what he described as failings by the EFL and Premier League that created the need for much of it.

Kent said the matter is complex and that the club have taken advice from at least two sets of professionals. He worked closely with Albion during Lai’s tenure and before a February 2024 rescue amid administration fears.
