Tunisia head coach Sabri Lamouchi has reportedly been sacked after one World Cup match, a 5-1 opening defeat to Sweden.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, reports surfaced on Monday of a mid-tournament dismissal.

The 54-year-old, a former France international, is well known to Leeds United supporters for a 2019/20 City Ground win with Nottingham Forest on 8 February that plunged Marcelo Bielsa’s side into what he later termed a loss of faith, followed by a post-match interview from Luke Ayling that lingered in the memory.

That defeat left Leeds with one win in six. They drew 1-1 at Brentford a few days later, then won the next five and 12 of their final 14 to be crowned champions.

Forest, by contrast, won only three of their last 15 and finished seventh on goal difference. Lamouchi was sacked in October 2020.

Since then he has coached Al-Duhail, spent half a season at Cardiff City, and was later dismissed by Al-Riyadh and Al-Diriyah in Saudi Arabia, before taking the Tunisia job in January.

Tunisia face an uphill task to escape Group F, with games still to come against Japan and the Netherlands.
