Sabri Lamouchi has criticised Louey Ben Farhat after the Karlsruhe forward, 19, withdrew from Tunisia’s World Cup squad despite debuting in March friendlies. According to L'Équipe, the coach viewed the conduct as disrespectful and said the matter was closed.
Lamouchi said Ben Farhat’s father phoned on Friday morning to say selection was too early and refused the call-up. He tried to contact the player, then rang the father again, neither picked up.
Ben Farhat had been named in Tunisia’s 26 for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, from 11 June to 19 July, where the Aigles de Carthage will face Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands in Group F.
He won his first two caps in late March friendlies, a 1-0 win over Haiti and a 0-0 draw with Canada, playing 63 minutes in total. Born in Waiblingen in Germany, he came through at Karlsruhe and has scored six goals in 19 second-tier matches this season.
Following this decision, he must now hope to represent the Nationalmannschaft in future.
