Sadio Mané struck the winner and outshone former Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah as Senegal beat Egypt 1-0 on Wednesday to reach the AFCON final.

According to L'Équipe, Idrissa Gueye produced a commanding performance, rated seven, blunting Emam Ashour, given five, and stalling Egypt’s rare transitions. His graft also allowed Pape Gueye, rated six, to break forward.

El Hadji Malick Diouf earned seven after a fierce duel with Salah, winning most of their battles. The 21-year-old West Ham left back added threat with a testing cross for El-Shenawy on 38 minutes, while his corners brought little joy. He looks to have a bright future.

Salah was marked four, reflecting an Egypt side that was diligent but rarely daring. Apart from a floating free-kick that unsettled Senegal near the interval at 45+1, he was contained by the stout Diouf.

For Senegal, Ed. Mendy was rated five, with K. Diatta and M. Niakhaté on six and five respectively. Kalidou Koulibaly went off for Mam. Sarr on 23 minutes, while I. Sarr and C. Ndiaye arrived on 85 and P. Ciss on 90. For Egypt, El-Shenawy received four.
