Saint-Etienne closing on AIK midfielder Aron Csongvai as fifth summer signing | OneFootball

Saint-Etienne are closing on AIK midfielder Aron Csongvai, with a fee agreed just under €1 million and completion possible on Sunday. The club are preparing to welcome the new arrival by early next week.

Nemzeti reported on Saturday that talks were under way between Saint-Etienne and AIK over the 25-year-old midfielder. The Verts have moved quickly since one July to wrap up business.

Their early window has brought in recruits from France, Denmark, Senegal and Austria, and Hungary could soon join that list with a fifth addition. Defence was addressed with Ndiaye and Naïr, creativity with Breum and Ballo. Midfield remains a priority after Florian Tardieu’s exit and Pierre Ekwah’s wish to depart.

Trained at Ujpest, Csongvai offers a more defensive profile than Breum, bringing the work-rate Ian Cathro wants in the middle.

He spent two years with Fehervar from 2023 to 2025, leaving his homeland at 24 after 170 matches, 14 goals and 10 assists. Joining AIK in the winter of 2025, he has played 52 games in one and a half seasons in Sweden, scoring four and supplying four assists.

He completed 90 minutes against Mjallby on Saturday, so would arrive in the Loire match sharp.
