Bukayo Saka has handed Thomas Tuchel a welcome fitness boost ahead of England’s second World Cup match against Ghana.

The Arsenal winger returned to full group training on Sunday, having worked individually a day earlier. It eases concerns over the Achilles problem he has been carrying.

England have moved cautiously with their key forward. Saka did not fully join the squad on Saturday, instead following a bespoke programme.

He then took part in normal training during Sunday’s penultimate session before Tuesday’s game in Boston.

The issue is not a new one. Saka has been managing Achilles tendinitis since the closing weeks of the season.

There was some concern behind the scenes at Arsenal, though the club deemed him fit enough to feature regularly in their title run-in.

Crucially, the problem has not worsened. Sources indicate it has stayed stable since the end of the domestic campaign, when Arsenal won their first league title in 22 years.

England’s medical staff are simply prioritising his long-term availability.

Tuchel has been open about the plan. “I’m not in the physio department, but he hasn’t missed a day of training, so I think that’s a good thing,” he said.

The manager added that Saka “is not ready to complete a full 90 minutes yet.”

His role so far reflects that caution. Saka started on the bench for the 4-2 win over Croatia, coming on to set up Marcus Rashford’s late goal.

Tuchel has suggested he is unlikely to start until the final group game against Panama.

With three points already banked, England can afford patience. Noni Madueke is expected to continue on the right wing against Ghana, keeping Saka’s workload in check.

Harry Kane, meanwhile, arrives in red-hot form, his brace against Croatia having equalled Gary Lineker’s record as England’s all-time leading World Cup scorer.

Bukayo Saka has returned to full England training ahead of the Ghana clash, easing Achilles concerns, though Thomas Tuchel is managing the Arsenal winger carefully.
