Salford City fans vote to bring back classic orange

Salford City are set to ditch red and return to their classic orange home kit next season, following a decisive vote from the supporters.

The Ammies haven’t worn tangerine at the Peninsula Stadium since the Class of ’92 takeover in 2014, when Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Phil Neville, and Nicky Butt guided the club into the red era.

Before that, orange and black were the club’s iconic colours for around 40 years, and fans have long campaigned for a return. When the switch to red first happened, protests broke out at matches, with chants of “We are Tangerine” and even some supporters skipping games in frustration.

The recent vote saw a whopping 77.1% of fans back the move, following a heritage consultation. The decision comes after Neville and David Beckham bought out the rest of the Class of ’92 last May, giving the pair full control under a new consortium.

Salford City say the change is about more than just kit - it signals a new era where the club’s historic tangerine identity meets modern styling. The update will also coincide with stadium improvements, including new seating and refreshed cladding, ahead of the 2026-27 season.
