Salvai: Juventus is like home to me | OneFootball

Cecilia Salvai has extended her contract with the Juventus Women until 30 June 2027, and wanted to share her thoughts with us on such an important day.

"This is a historic renewal for me, one of pride, it is the most bianconero renewal ever. This contract extension was not a foregone conclusion because it's one thing to be signed by Juventus, which isn't easy anyway, but it's another to be able to stay here. So to be here again after so many years is certainly a reason for great pride and happiness. Juventus is like home to me. I remember the first day I was in Vinovo with everyone…so many things have changed in the meantime, from the people to the facilities. But it's still Juventus, you can always feel the grandeur of this club.”

HIGHLIGHTS OF EIGHT SEASONS AT JUVENTUS

"Definitely the night of the first Scudetto, but also my first day in 2017. They were two really special moments that I remember very well. The first Scudetto was won on penalties...those who were there remember it well because it was a really emotional day. In the corridors of Vinovo, we have this huge canvas that immortalises the moment when, from the halfway line, we run all together after the last penalty...unforgettable.”

A JUVENTUS REFERENCE POINT

"I do feel like a reference point, and it's a great responsibility for me and my teammates who have been here for a long time. It's a responsibility, but it is also a source of great pride for our fans who are now part of this family too. It's nice to know that my name is associated with the history of Juventus.”

EXAMPLE OF STRENGTH AND RESILIENCE

"Last season was certainly a tough one, perhaps the worst in footballing terms, because I had never had to stay off the pitch for basically a whole season. But hard work always pays off and I managed to get back on the pitch at a key time. It was a good comeback, I played three games and we lifted two trophies. When you have the desire and the strength to return to where you want to be, everything always comes together. I have to thank director Stefano Braghin and the whole of Juventus: they were there for me, once again, in this complicated part of my career. And it is absolutely not something to be taken for granted.”

WHAT COMES NEXT?

"Definitely the Champions League. It is always there, and it’s important to aim for the biggest prize. We've been playing in it every season since the second year and the gap is definitely closing. In my opinion it has to be on everyone's mind, just like the other trophies. Obviously the opponents are of the highest level and the games are different from the domestic ones, but we have also shown at international level, both with the club and the national team, that we can be there. It is a trophy that I’m missing and it would be great to make it happen.”
