Sam Kerr ‘to join’ Gotham FC after leaving Chelsea | OneFootball

Sam Kerr is leaving Chelsea to join Gotham FC in the NWSL after six seasons with the Blues.

According to the BBC, the Australia international, with 122 caps and 64 goals, will return to the New Jersey club based in Harrison where she played from 2015 to 2017.

She said the club had been important in her journey and that coming back now felt special. Gotham won the Challenge Cup on 27 June and are the reigning NWSL champions.

The 32-year-old became the highest-paid female player in the world on arrival in London. In that time she won five league titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups and one Community Shield.

She twice claimed the league’s Golden Boot and finished second in the 2023 Ballon d’Or. She departs as Chelsea’s leading scorer with 116 goals in 158 appearances.

She also became the first woman to feature on the cover of FIFA 23’s Ultimate Edition, developed by Electronic Arts.
