Kayserispor, who had come close to signing the Carrington graduate in the summer only to see the move break down at the last moment, have returned to the fray and submitted a bid.

He is 21, and has clearly outgrown academy football. And the Turkish side’s long-term interest means the ex-England U19 international is likely to play an important role for them.

Despite being called up to train with the first team, Ruben Amorim was never likely to turn to the left winger as his system prioritises wingbacks to provide the width.

There was interest from Germany, Greece, and even the Middle East, but it seems Kayserispor are finally about to land their man.

The Red Devils are considering the bid, while the Turkish club have opened talks with the United youngster over personal terms.

They are keen to wrap the deal up fast, as they want Sam Mather to join their mid-season winter training camp next week.

The 20-time English league champions are ready to make concessions to allow the Salford-born player to leave as soon as possible.

“Turkish club Kayserispor have submitted a fresh bid to sign Manchester United youngster Sam Mather on a permanent deal. Mather was in talks to join Kayserispor in the summer transfer window, but the deal collapsed.

Deal expected to go through

“The Manchester Evening News understands Kayserispor’s bid is currently being considered by United and the Turkish club have opened discussions with Mather over terms.

“Kayserispor would like to wrap up a quick deal for Mather in order for him to join their mid-season winter training camp next week. United are willing to make concessions to allow Mather to leave as early as possible after his summer move collapsed.”

The attacker has made six appearances for the U21s this season, and has registered two assists. His current market value stands at €200K (via Football Transfers).

Whether INEOS insert a sell-on clause to raise money in case of a future move, or even a buyback clause will be interesting to see.
