Samu will undergo surgery on his right knee in Madrid next week.

According to O Jogo, the young FC Porto centre-forward was injured in Monday’s clássico against Sporting and will not play again this season.

He travelled to Spain on Thursday for a second medical opinion on a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Spanish surgeon Manuel Leyes reached the same conclusion as Porto’s medical staff and will perform the procedure.

Porto’s medical team will be in daily contact with Leyes and will accompany the entire process.

Leyes has previously operated on high-profile athletes, including Thibaut Courtois, Luka Modric, Éder Militão, Gabriela Muguruza, Rodri, Carolina Marín and Alberto Contador.
