The proposed joint stadium project for Milan and Inter has hit another stumbling block, as the Municipality of Milan faces legal action over the sale of the land surrounding the iconic San Siro stadium.

According to a report from La Verità, via MilanNews.it, a local citizen has filed a lawsuit against the city council, disputing the legitimacy of the land transfer to the two clubs’ joint entity, Stadio San Siro SpA.

The transaction was officially finalised on November 5 2025, a key date in the ongoing saga. The lawsuit alleges that Palazzo Marino intentionally rushed the sale through just five days before the stadium reached its 70th anniversary, a milestone that would have triggered an automatic preservation order prohibiting any future sale or demolition of the arena.

Furthermore, the legal challenge points out that municipal authorities proceeded with the signing despite receiving formal warnings from advisors in the preceding days suggesting a delay for precautionary reasons.

While both Milan and Inter had hoped to finally accelerate their plans for a modern, shared home, this latest judicial hurdle threatens to drag the city council into a lengthy court battle, potentially delaying the groundbreaking process once again.
