Napoli want to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United this summer but are not prepared to meet the player’s wage demands.
Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea but the Blues decided against their obligation to make the transfer permanent after a failure to reach an agreement on personal terms. Chelsea had agreed a £25m fee with the Red Devils, but instead opted to pay a £5m penalty to send the winger back to his parent club.
Manchester United remain determined to offload Sancho but his £300,000-a-week wages are proving problematic for suitors.
Napoli are interested, but only if Sancho takes a significant cut on his current salary, or Manchester United agree to a loan move with a portion of his wages covered.
United do not currently want to consider loan moves with the intention to sell Sancho and recoup funds for transfer activity. The winger has disappointed since his £72.9m move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. He has spent the last 18 months out on loan, first with Borussia Dortmund before joining Chelsea last summer. Last season, he scored three times and provided four assists for Chelsea in the Premier League.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Napoli are prepared to wait and see if an opportunity to sign Sancho opens up later in the window. Sancho’s current contract at Old Trafford still has 12 months to run.
Napoli are considering several left-wingers following the sale of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain in January. However, despite rumoured interest in Jack Grealish, Romano has reported that the England international is not a player on the radar of the Italian champions as things stand.
