Sandro Tonali was at his usual excellent best on Saturday.

Newcastle United dominating the midfield and indeed the game.

United making it seven wins in their last eight matches and Sandro Tonali has started all of them. The midfielder so unlucky to see that superb effort crash back off the woodwork on Saturday as well.

The Italy international has been key to the first trophy in 56 years and taking Newcastle United to the brink of Champions League qualification once again.

When you have such high quality players appearing from you, then top teams will always dream of signing them.

Also, having brilliant individuals, the media will always try to milk the fact for attention and cash.

It has been laughable that the Italian media put up daily stories claiming a Serie A club could be going to sign Sandro Tonali. Basically, the exact same story every time with zero substance, just making stuff up. The daily repeated story is really just ‘Serie A club would like to sign Sandro Tonali’ with no claims of even any contact, never mind why exactly Newcastle United would be selling one of their best players, let alone why they would be willing to do for the same figure they bought him for back in 2023, which was £55m. The thing is, if these made up Italian media stories actually reported Tonali’s true valuation these days, which must be £100m+, then they know that even the daftest Italian football fan isn’t going to believe a Serie A club will be able to afford that and his wages, which is of course before you even get to why on earth would NUFC be willing to sell a player who is key to our progress and has over three years left on his contract.

We have now reached new levels though, amongst all the rubbish I have seen about Sandro Tonali this latest one really stands out on Tuesday (29 April 2025):

‘Real Madrid Madrid hold an interest in €45 million-rated Newcastle United midfielder

Real Madrid are also looking at Newcastle United ace Sandro Tonali as an option.

The 24-year-old midfielder has become a key figure for Newcastle United since arriving from Inter Milan in 2023.

So far this season, Tonali has featured in 41 games, registering five goals and three assists, helping the Magpies win the Carabao Cup.

A midfielder with great quality and plenty of top-level experience under his belt, Tonali is seen as a player capable of filling the hole left by Tony Kroos’ retirement.

A player who is known for his top-notch playmaking ability as well as his ball-winning skills and work rate, the 24-year-old can be a very useful signing for Real Madrid.’

It is from one of the proliferation of sites these days, that will literally say/claim anything.

This above from something called ‘Madrid Universal’ and along with all other big clubs, Real Madrid has any number of sites looking to make money from ‘stories’ about them.

So, Newcastle United paid £55m for Sandro Tonali back in summer 2023, as an emerging top class midfielder, who still had to prove himself in the Premier League and wasn’t yet a regular starter for the national team.

United then are hit by a blow of losing Sandro Tonali to his ban for almost a full year, now after only eight months back where he is showing ever more brilliant form for both Newcastle United and Italy, aged 24 with his best years ahead of him and looking one of the best midfielders in the Premier League/Europe…

Now we are supposed to believe (according to this nonsense from Madrid Universal), that Sandro Tonali has actually gone down £17m in value and Newcastle United would be willing to sell him to Real Madrid for only £38m (€45m)?!!!

This sums up the nonsense we are constantly subjected to as Newcastle United fans.

Not only our best players the subject of invented stories by media (in the UK and overseas) that they could be joining whoever, but on top of there being zero substance/facts to any of these stories, they also claim at the same time of how brilliant these Newcastle players are, they have also not gone up in value since NUFC bought them, or indeed, have actually gone down in value!!
