Santi Cañizares vows Koeman tattoo if Netherlands win the World Cup | OneFootball

Santi Cañizares made a tongue-in-cheek pledge on air, saying he would get Ronald Koeman’s face tattooed if the Netherlands win the 2026 World Cup. The vow jars with their long-running fallout at Valencia.

As reported by Superdeporte, the former Valencia goalkeeper said it during Cadena Cope’s late-night show Tiempo de Juego, alongside Paco González, in a light-hearted chat about the tournament.

Their rift dates to 2007/08, when Koeman arrived in November and within a month froze out Cañizares, David Albelda and Miguel Ángel Angulo, telling them they were not in his plans. He publicly called it a sporting decision for the good of the team. Cañizares has since said Koeman effectively ended his career.

The exchange began with Cañizares challenging the host to promise a Jose Mourinho tattoo if Real Madrid win the Champions League next year. He then raised the stakes, saying he would ink Koeman’s face should the Netherlands be crowned world champions.

Laughter followed in the studio, and the station later shared the clip on social media with a mock-up of Cañizares’ arm bearing Koeman’s face, the current Netherlands head coach. The Netherlands open on Sunday against Japan at 22:00.
