Santos and Neymar relations sour amid rows and financial issues | OneFootball

Relations between Santos and Neymar have deteriorated in recent months. According to Globo.com, behaviour concerns, boardroom tension and finances have left the partnership frayed.

Anonymous voices say he is hard to manage, citing selfish acts that irritate team-mates, coaches and officials. His appearance at a poker event while the squad were in Venezuela for a Sudamericana tie drew complaints.

His leadership is questioned after a May training clash with Robinho Júnior. Last weekend he admonished Gabriel Bontempo and João Ananias after the Chapecoense draw, then left CT Rei Pelé without permission.

Inside the club there is a sense he is fed up and considering stopping, while his father is said to urge him to continue for commercial reasons. His camp also complains about outsiders at CT Rei Pelé and weak protection, and they question the facilities and squad quality with Santos again in a relegation fight.

He funded upgrades at the training ground and Vila Belmiro, which sparked SAF talk later denied by his father.

Santos owe Neymar over R$ 90 million, image-rights were up to three months late this year, and last week R$ 8.5 million from the August sale of Luca Meirelles to Shakhtar Donetsk went to NR Sports.

Aged 34, he is contracted until the end of 2026, and an extension is seen as unlikely by both sides. He is due back at CT Rei Pelé before Universidad Central de Venezuela visit at Vila Belmiro, and after a 4-1 first leg he is likely to be rested.
