Santos were cleared by the STJD’s fourth Disciplinary Commission over a supporter spitting at Mirassol full-back Reinaldo during the 1-1 draw at Vila Belmiro on Sunday 23 August, but were fined R$5,000 for a late start. According to Diario Do Peixe, the ruling acquitted the club over the incident and imposed the delay fine.
Santos said they had identified the culprit, filed a police report and issued a statement. The rapporteur Gabriel Fonseca backed a R$5,000 delay fine and acquittal on the spitting count, supported by Juliana Camões, Pedro Perdiz and president Caio Barros.
The club located João Guilherme Davi De Almeida, who admitted spitting at Reinaldo. He said he is a Santos fan, not in an organised group, believed he was near Gate 26, acted in the heat of the moment and expressed deep regret.
Referee Edina Alves Batista recorded a spitting incident from the Santos section in the 25th minute of the first half and could not identify the fan. She noted Santos entered five minutes late for the pre-match protocol, delaying kick-off by four minutes, and both teams returned one minute late for the second half, causing a two minute restart delay.
Reinaldo wrote that he valued the point but nobody goes to work to be spat at, calling it disgusting, lamentable and shameful. He said the images were clear and hoped appropriate measures would prevent a repeat.
