Santos hit 10 games this season, still haunted by past woes

Santos lost 2-1 to Athletico-PR this Thursday, in the third round of the Brazilian Championship. The Peixe continues without a win in the Brasileirão and suggests that it will make its fans suffer through another season.

There have already been 10 matches this season, and progress is still hard to see. When the performance isn't bad, individual errors compromise the work and bring everything crashing down. The defense, in particular, remains the team's main problem.

Of the four defenders in the squad, only Luan Peres stands out — and not exactly due to individual merit, but because of the low competitiveness of the rest of the sector.

Zé Ivaldo managed to commit a completely unnecessary penalty just two minutes into the game at Arena da Baixada. João Basso came on in the second half and needed only a few minutes to become the villain: Athletico's second goal came precisely behind him, in stoppage time.

Basso was already coming off a decisive mistake in the 1-1 draw with São Paulo. Alexis Duarte, in turn, accumulated errors in the 4-2 defeat to Chapecoense and ended up losing his place in the team.

While the defense is in disarray, the attack also contributes little. The team wastes several chances and fails to turn game volume into goals. The lack of effectiveness has been another constant headache for Vojvoda.

It's still the third round of the Brasileirão, but it's already enough time to sound the alarm. At this pace, Santos will once again fight to escape relegation. Last year's scare seems to have served no purpose.
