Santos in talks to sign Athletic midfielder Ian Luccas | OneFootball

According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos are in talks to sign midfielder Ian Luccas from Athletic, the Minas Gerais club.

The prospective move has the approval of head coach Cuca, who has highlighted midfield as a weak area. The board is working to add options for the remainder of the campaign.

Ian Luccas came through Ferroviária’s academy and made his senior debut in 2022. He joined Cruzeiro later that year, then had loans at Ferroviária, Goiás and Athletic, who later bought him for one million euros.

At Athletic he has impressed in Série B of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Primarily a central midfielder, he can also operate in more advanced roles, a trait that appeals to the Santos staff.

Coach Alex has recently used him in a more offensive role for Athletic, and he has scored two goals in the last three Série B matches. He also struck twice in the Copa do Brasil defeat to Internacional, a 3-2 loss at Arena Beira-Rio in the fifth phase.
