Santos paid players’ salaries hours before their 2-0 win at Coritiba, a result that booked a place in the Copa do Brasil last 16. Image-rights instalments remain overdue.

The victory at Couto Pereira came with goals from Gabriel Bontempo and Adonis Frías. According to Diario Do Peixe, this was the first time in 2026 that wages had been delayed, with previous problems restricted to image rights.

The club still owes two image-rights instalments to the squad.

Last month, senior players met the board in Ecuador before facing Deportivo Cuenca to seek clarity on the delays. One pending instalment was settled hours before that match.

Even after that payment, arrears climbed back to two months. Internally, there is an expectation of fresh funds to ease the backlog, but there is no timetable for full regularisation.

The board has struggled with monthly cash flow. Santos hold more than R$ 470 million in short-term debt due within 12 months, and about R$ 761 million in medium and long-term liabilities.

Santos face Coritiba again on Sunday at 11h Brasília time at Neo Química Arena in the 16th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
