Santos reconvened at CT Rei Pelé on Thursday morning after a 2-2 draw with San Lorenzo in the Copa Sudamericana. Focus now shifts to the Campeonato Brasileiro trip to Grêmio on Saturday, 19:00 Brasília time, at the Arena do Grêmio.
According to Diario Do Peixe, Wednesday’s starters worked on recovery indoors, while the remaining players completed technical and tactical drills on the pitch under head coach Cuca.
Neymar again drew attention, staying inside for gym work as he continues treatment on a 2-millimetre oedema in his right calf, sustained after a knock against Coritiba last Sunday.
Inside the club and with the Brazil national team, the issue is not viewed with major concern. The forward is progressing well clinically and could yet feature against Deportivo Cuenca in the final Sudamericana group match before reporting for the World Cup.
He remains out of the Grêmio game. Barreal is suspended, and Vinícius Lira is still recovering from surgery on his left knee. Gabriel Menino, João Schmidt and Thaciano continue treatment for right thigh muscle injuries.
Left-back Gonzalo Escobar, who missed the San Lorenzo match, has pain in his left leg and is a doubt for Saturday.
Santos travel to Porto Alegre under pressure, sitting 16th in the Campeonato Brasileiro on 18 points, the same tally as Corinthians, who are the first team inside the relegation zone.
