Santos working to revive Mayke after poor start to year | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, Santos are working to restore right-back Mayke’s fitness and form, aiming to have him ready soon to debut under Cuca, a coach he previously worked with and won titles alongside.

Aged 33, he is valued in the dressing room and with younger players, but he has played little.

The club began regenerative therapy on his right knee to reduce swelling and ease persistent pain. Day-to-day work had been hampered by the issue, and he had slipped in the pecking order.

With only five outings this season, he is back-up to Igor Vinicius and was even listed as negotiable. He stayed, backed by director Alexandre Mattos and now Cuca.

Santos loaned academy full-back JP Chermont to Coritiba to secure minutes. Early board analysis is positive on his minutes and performances, and he is starting for the current seventh-placed side in the Brasileirão.

Because he received a corticosteroid for the procedure, he is not expected to face Remo on two April. The substance is not permitted in competition and must clear to avoid a doping risk, a process expected to take around 20 days.
