São Paulo prosecutors charge ex-Corinthians officials and security chief, seek R$ 3.4m repayment | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, São Paulo’s public prosecutors have filed charges against three former Corinthians directors and a former employee over events from 2018 to 2023 under Andrés Sanchez and Duilio Monteiro Alves.

Ex-security chief João Odair de Souza, known as Caveira, allegedly took more than R$ 3.4 million in cash across six years without providing receipts for most of it. He is accused of misappropriation and prosecutors want him to repay R$ 3.4 million, adjusted to more than R$ 7.3 million.

Former finance heads Matías Romano Ávila and Wesley Melo, and ex-finance manager Roberto Gavioli, were also charged with misappropriation and omission. Prosecutors say they failed in their duty to supervise and prevent the alleged diversion.

The trio are also sought for moral damages equal to 75% of material losses, about R$ 2.6 million plus inflation. Prosecutors ask to freeze assets and gain access to banking and tax records to trace funds and assess possible third-party involvement.

Sanchez and Duilio were not charged at this stage. The inquiry into any possible role continues, as part of the sums were logged as "advance for the presidency", and the direct link with Caveira will be examined later.

Ávila said the complaint is unfounded and lacks concrete evidence. The others did not respond to requests for comment.

Prosecutors say the cash was advanced for presidential expenses and paid into Caveira’s personal and company accounts.
