Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri previewed Sunday’s Serie A clash against AC Milan, while tackling various topics, including his future at the club.

Maurizio Sarri Enchanted with the Return of Lazio Supporters

The contest will witness the return of the Biancocelesti supporters to the stands. The organized fan groups announced they will interrupt their protest against Lazio president Claudio Lotito to attend this fixture before resuming the boycott.

In his pre-match press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) held on Saturday, Sarri revealed he’s ready to accept the fans’ invitation to greet them under the Curva Nord.

Both the players and I are very happy to play in front of our fans and in a full stadium. On behalf of myself and the team, we thank them, and we hope to repay them on the pitch as well, despite what will be an extremely difficult match. They’ve had an influence on past decisions as well, not only future ones. This is an environment I like, I like the people and I feel in tune with them. They will have an influence. The fact they want to greet me pleases me. Usually I don’t go there (under the Curva) out of respect for my players, they’re the ones who should have the stage. But I think tomorrow I will go.

Sarri on Playing Milan

Sarri also explained the difficulties of playing against Milan, who’ll be hellbent on reducing the gap to five points with league leaders, Inter Milan.

Milan have very clear characteristics. They can hurt you even when they don’t seem to be in control of the match. They have great technical and physical quality. It’s a game where we must not allow them open space because their acceleration is devastating. At the same time we must not let them get into the box either — tactically it’s extremely difficult.

The 67-year-old was also asked what he envies the most about his opposite number, Massimiliano Allegri.

Allegri coaches the club with the highest revenue in Italy, so they can afford important players. There are things you might envy, but that’s part of the game. What does he envy about me? Ask him (laughs).

Who Will Be Lazio’s Regista Against AC Milan

With Danilo Cataldi and Nicolo Rovella both ruled out with injuries, Lazio are left without a natural, deep-lying playmaker. Sarri reveals that he could entrust Patric with the role once more, or play Kenneth Taylor in a deeper position.

In recent days we’ve been trying Patric and Taylor there, then we’ll see when the time comes to finalize the decision. We’ll try to recover Romagnoli until tomorrow morning, but the situation isn’t very simple.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru Starting to Win Over Sarri

The Lazio coach has been increasingly relying on Fisayo Dele-Bashiru as of late, but he urges him to improve his tactical awareness.

If space opens up he’s definitely improving in attacking it. At first he only did it with the ball at his feet, now he also does it without the ball. Tactically, he still has to improve; sometimes he doesn’t sense the danger, and when he does it can be too late. He’s still a book yet to be written.

Sarri Opens up on His Lazio Future

Finally, Sarri belittled the importance of the statements made by Lazio sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, who claimed that the club wants to honor the three-year contract with the manager.

Fabiani simply stated the facts: I have a long contract. That’s the situation. If the club isn’t happy or if I’m not happy, then we’ll talk about it, but today there’s no discussion. It looks like there could be another “year zero”: many players are out of contract and if they aren’t renewed soon I imagine they’ll find agreements with other clubs. We’ll see how the club wants to restart. I’m at Lazio and in many ways I’m very happy here. The contract is what it is.
