Saudi Arabia PIF to now stick or twist with Newcastle United?

Do the NUFC majority owners Saudi Arabia PIF continue to see Newcastle United as central to their sporting project, or are we very much being left to one side?

It has been an incredibly frustrating week for us as Newcastle United fans; missing out on yet another key target in James Trafford, uncertainty around who we can bring in and of course – the Alexander Isak bombshell.

But this week has brought more news that seems to have flown under the radar with the media.

The Public Investment Fund have purchased yet another Saudi club in the shape of ‘Neom Sportsclub’, a side that has this season been promoted to the Saudi Arabian top flight for the first time in their history. This now makes for five(!) PIF owned teams in the Saudi Pro League, but what is setting this club apart, is that it’s the only one that is 100% owned by the fund (and technically the new richest club on the planet).

This brings me to my key point: has Newcastle United taken a backseat in their aspirations of Saudi Arabia PIF for domination of the footballing world?

It’s been clear for the best part of two months now that the makeshift set up behind the scenes is struggling – badly – but there seems to be no interest in sorting something out from the ownership to get some kind of order in place to get wheels moving.

Could this potentially be a reason why we’ve missed out on so many targets because Eddie Howe and co are having to go up and down the flagpole for permission and decisions because there’s no one in place to make them at ground level?

You can’t help but feel that if it was any of their other business ventures they’d be sending in an associate to firefight these disasters we seem to have been having week in, week out. It’s especially telling that according to reports, Newcastle United Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has only just now decided to step in and take over control of the Alexander Isak situation. instead of getting involved from the beginning, which could have avoided the fiasco.

It’s been a tough window full of questions, but in my opinion the biggest one is yet to be answered – will the Saudi Arabia PIF stick or twist with Newcastle United?
