Liverpool face the prospect of losing chief executive of football Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes, according to the Independent.

They oversaw last summer’s record-breaking transfer window. This upcoming transfer market opening is also important, as they still have issues to address.

However, the Saudi Pro League (SPL) is sensing an opportunity to snap up the directors.

Liverpool hired Edwards to lead what they expected to be a network of clubs, but after analysing several teams, they have not advanced with any concrete plans.

As for Hughes, his first major transfer window in charge yielded mixed results.

Despite flashes of brilliance, the jury is still out on Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgio Mamardashvili.

It is unclear whether Liverpool will allow two hugely influential figures to leave in a pivotal summer when they must bolster the squad to compete for top honours again.

Liverpool are poised to lose Mohamed Salah with a move to the SPL on the cards.

A reunion with the two directors could happen in the Gulf this summer.

However, losing both Edwards and Hughes in the same window is self-sabotage at a time when they need clarity and decisiveness.

Liverpool cannot afford that level of instability heading into a defining summer.

With Virgil van Dijk entering the twilight of his career, succession planning at centre-back is urgent, while tying down Ibrahima Konate to a new deal must be a priority.

Beyond that, the squad still lacks a true holding midfielder to anchor the engine room, and the wide areas need refreshing.

This is not a window for uncertainty or behind-the-scenes upheaval.

Liverpool need stability, direction and strong leadership to execute a multi-layered rebuild, not the loss of the architects tasked with delivering it.
