Savinho has signed a new long-term contract at Manchester City, in a deal that will extend the winger’s stay at the Etihad through to the summer of 2031.
The Brazilian international has made a big impact since joining City from Troyes in the summer of 2024.
Blessed with terrific natural skill sets, a blistering turn of pace allied to some dazzling dribbling ability, he quickly acclimatised to the unique demands of the Premier League.
All told, Savinho went on to make 48 appearances across all competitions in his maiden season at the Etihad, weighing in with three goals and 13 assists along with helping City lift the 2024 Community Shield.
Reflecting on his new contract, Savinho said he was hugely honoured to further extend his stay at the Etihad but insisted there was so much more to come from him looking ahead to the future.
“I am incredibly proud to be able to sign this new contract with City,” Savinho said.
“It’s a very special feeling to know that Pep and the Club have placed such faith in me. It really means a lot to me and my family.
“I feel I have so much improving to do - I am still young and very hungry to keep learning. But I know that working with Pep and his staff will help me to keep developing as a player.
“From the moment I first arrived, I have loved my time at City. Everyone at the Club – and our fantastic fans - have made me feel so welcome and at home here in Manchester.
“I want to thank everyone here for their help so far and I promise that I will give everything to try and help this amazing club achieve more success.”
For his part, City Director of Football Hugo Viana expressed his delight at the new contract and said he was confident that Savinho would only continue to prosper and thrive in his City career.
“Savinho is still very young, but he has already demonstrated that he possesses the qualities needed to become a truly outstanding player,” Viana said.
“He has so many excellent attributes. His potential really is limitless.
“He has superb natural ability, works incredibly hard day in, day out, and he is humble. He is very eager to keep learning and help the team, and his ambition is to be one of the best attacking players in the game.
“I have no doubt that by continuing to work with Pep and his coaching team, Savinho will go on to be a key part of our squad for many years to come.”
Everyone at Manchester City wishes Savinho the very best of luck for the remainder of his new deal.
Though only 20 when he first arrived at the Etihad 14 months ago, Savinho made the move to Manchester already armed with a formidable reputation.
Having first come to prominence in Brazil as a teenager with Atletico Mineiro, he then made the move to Europe to join City Football Group sister club Troyes in the summer of 2022.
It wasn’t long before Savinho quickly demonstrated his vast attacking potential to European audiences.
Having initially shone during a loan spell at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in the 2022/23 season, his breakthrough campaign arrived the following season in what proved an outstanding loan spell with Spanish side Girona, another member of the CFG family.
The winger contributed 11 goals and 10 assists to help the Catalan side finish third in La Liga behind powerhouses Barcelona and Real Madrid and so qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
Having also won his maiden international cap with Brazil earlier that same season, Savinho’s magnificent impact and huge potential subsequently saw him join City in the summer of 2024.
For many young players, especially those having moved from another continent, acclimatising to life in a new country and take on board a new language and culture let alone adapting to the world’s most demanding and competitive can prove overwhelming.
So, it’s a measure of Savinho’s strength of character and mental fortitude that right from the get-go he instantly looked at home with City.
On first joining City, the player had talked of his desire to excite the fans and expressed a willingness to attack at every opportunity.
Savinho soon proved as good as his word, marrying his trademark South American flair with the work rate and hunger than underpins Pep Guardiola’s side.
Comfortable on either flank as well as being deployed in a more central attacking position, Savinho’s flexibility also proved invaluable.
In what was a testing season with a raft of injuries biting deep into City’s squad, he chalked up an impressive 48 appearances across all competitions, scoring three times and providing a hugely creditable 13 assists.
On the international stage meanwhile, Savinho further cemented his place in the senior Brazilian set up, helping the fabled South Americans seal their place at the 2026 World Cup finals and has won 13 caps to date.
Though injury delayed his entry into the fray at the outset of the 2025/26; a fine goal on his first full start in our Carabao Cup win at Huddersfield last week only served to further underline what he brings to the side.
And speaking earlier this month, City manager Pep Guardiola underlined both his cast-iron faith in Savinho as well as his conviction that he can go on to achieve great things with the Club.
“His numbers for goals and assists last season – Savinho created a lot, and in the final third, [he needs to] be active in the right moment,” the boss said.
“The moment he does that, he’s young, he will be a top-class player.
“He will make this step - it will come. Savinho will be a top player for Man City.”
With his long-term future further secured, Savinho can now focus on continuing to shine and helping in City’s quest for success.
