Scaloni explains Dybala’s absence from World Cup squad: “Others deserved to be there.” | OneFootball

Argentina released their pre-match squad for the World Cup a few days ago, and Paulo Dybala was not among the names Lionel Scaloni selected.

The Argentine coach explained his decision to DS Sports.

The coach first congratulated the striker on his achievement with Roma.

“Paulo is a great player, it goes without saying. He’s made an exceptional comeback with his team, reaching the Champions League with some very good performances in recent matches.”

Scaloni then explained that other players deserved a chance in Dybala’s place: “As always, however, there are players who make their debut and demonstrate important things. In our case, there are guys who have established themselves in that position on the pitch and who deserve a chance. So we decided to give this opportunity to other guys.”

The coach concluded by explaining that he won’t be the last top player to be left out of the World Cup: “There’s no doubt about his quality, the fact that we love him and that he’s a spectacular guy. There are also other world champions who have been left out; these are things that are decided day by day.”
